A rage click is a burst of rapid clicks on the same spot — the digital equivalent of jabbing a button that isn’t working. It’s one of the clearest signals that a visitor is frustrated.
Why rage clicks happen
- An element looks clickable but isn’t (a styled label, a non-interactive icon)
- A button is slow to respond, so the visitor clicks again… and again
- Something is broken — a script error, a stuck spinner, a failed submit
Why they matter
Rage clicks concentrate exactly where your experience is failing people. Unlike a bounce, which only tells you someone left, a rage click points at the specific element that caused the friction — and often precedes an abandoned cart or a support ticket.
How to act on them
- Find them in replay. Watch the sessions where rage clicks happened to see the context.
- Link them to errors. If a console error fired at the same moment, you’ve found a bug, not just a UX quirk.
